Wausau West would like to invite you and your students to participate in the Second Annual Central Wisconsin Concert Band Festival, featuring the Central Wisconsin Festival High School Honor Band. This exciting event is Free of Charge and will be held from 7:00am - 9:00pm on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at the Grand Theater in Wausau, WI. Dr. Scott Jones, Director of Bands at Concordia College and Dr. Eugene Rousseau, Artist Professor at the University of Minnesota will be our guest conductor and guest artist. It is also our pleasure to present the Lawrence University Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Andrew Mast, Dr Eugene Rousseau, and the Central Wisconsin High School Honor Band on Saturday, January 31 at 7:30pm in the Grand Theater.
This year’s Central Wisconsin Concert Band Festival will feature the 2nd Annual Conducting Symposium for all high school band directors. This opportunity will allow you to work directly with Dr. Scott Jones and Dr. Andrew Mast in a master class setting with the Lawrence University Wind Ensemble as your lab group. This unique professional development opportunity is offered to you free of charge. It is our hope that many conductors will take advantage of this special opportunity to learn and grow under such seasoned conductors and music educators as Professors Jones and Mast.
For your conducting symposium experience, you will choose one piece, or movement, to conduct from the following choices:
1) Anne McGinty - Red Balloon
2) Hugh Stuart - Three Ayrers From Gloucester
3) Vincent Persichetti - Divertimento
Be sure to check “yes” for the conducting symposium on the online registration form and check the name of the piece/movement you will be conducting. Priority will be given to those conducting participants with students selected for the Honor Band. I also invite you to bring a video tape so that your experience may be recorded for your future use.
Dr Eugene Rousseau will be directing a master class for our Honor Band students during the conducting collegium at the Jefferson Inn and Suites across the street from the Grand Theater. The master class will begin with a performance by Dr. Rousseau followed by saxophone student soloists and ensembles that would like feedback from Dr. Rousseau. To conclude the session, students and band directors will facilitate a question and answer section with Dr. Rousseau, ranging from technique and musicianship to topics related to auditioning, choosing schools, and practice habits. A roundtable discussion for band directors, music dealers, and area musicians will take place in the morning hours during the Honor Band rehearsal with Dr. Eugene Rousseau. A tentative schedule of the day’s events can be viewed below.
